What Is Weatherization?

Weatherization is the practice of protecting a building and its interior from the elements, particularly from sunlight, participation and wind, and of modifying a building to reduce energy consumption and optimize energy efficiency. We work closely with Rise Engineering to implement all of these weatherization procedures to create a comfortable home for you and at the same time reduce your overall carbon footprint.

Watherization procedures

Protecting pipes from corrosion and freezing.
Installing insulation in walls, floors, and ceilings, around ducts and pipes, around water heaters, andnear the foundation and sill.
Providing proper ventilation to unconditionedspaces to protect a building from the effects of condensation.
Sealing bypasses (cracks, gaps, holes), especially around doors, windows, pipes and wiring that penetrate the ceiling and floor, and other areas with high potential for heat loss, using caulk, foam sealant, weather-stripping, window film, door sweeps, electrical receptacle gaskets, and so on to reduce infiltration.

Benefits

Save Money and Energy

A home that is properly weatherized can reduce energy costs by up to 30 percent on a monthly basis. This can translate into saving of nearly $1000annually, depending on the extent of the improvements and the homeowner’s lifestyle.

Lower Environmental Impact

Lowering home energy consumption reduces the release of carbon dioxide and other gasses into the environment while decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels. Insulation materials are also made from recycled paper.

Improved Safety

When completed by a professional like Nauset Insulation, the weatherizing process corrects potentially harmful issues like excessive moisture, improper combustion and poor ventilation, which will make your home a healthier and safer place to live.

Extended HVAC Equipment Life:

In homeswith significant air leaks, the heating andcooling load is much higher, which forces thefurnace, heat pump and air conditioner to workharder and longer to meet the thermostat call.Over time without the benefit of regularmaintenance, the extra accumulated runtimehours create additional stress and wear on theequipment, which can result in higher repaircosts and a shorter system lifecycle.

Better Comfort

Weatherizing your home will eliminate the winter drafts and summer hot spots that create uneven temperature zones in different rooms. Rapid thermal gain or loss creates the greatest sense of discomfort and a home that is properly sealed will maintain a consistent temperature in all weather conditions. Whole-house energy and indoor air quality audit conducted by a professional can help identify problem areas in order to establish weatherizing priorities.

Long Term Investment

Weatherizing your home will keep you warm in the winter and cooler in hot summer days for years to come. Recent research shows that weatherizing your property will result in 18% annual heating consumption savings and  7% annual electric consumption savings  Furthermore, it significantly reduces your utility bills and adds value to your property. That makes it a great move if you’re looking for long-term investment while improving the comfort of your home.
